Trying to find and information about my 4x Great Grandfather who was Chief Officer at Alverstoke before he retired in about 1865
Hi i have just purchased a 1879 south Africa zulu war medal, recipient H Amyatt Burney . I was just interested to know if any relation to the Burney naval academy?ThanksTodd
I read with interested your booklet about Brockhurst School, as I was a pupil at the Infant and Junior Schools there 1952 - 1958. I can still remember the names of some of the teachers in the infant & girls’ side of the school. I also have memories of the classrooms, the teaching and of playground games. I may still have a class photograph. I learned a love of books from nearby Elson library & eventually went on to Gosport Grammar School at Bay House. My father was in the Navy, as were many. I saw very little of him as a child. He was always away at sea. His surname was Humby and he came from an old Gosport family who were originally watermen. I believe a branch of the family may have helped to set up the Gosport ferry. I left Gosport in 1970.
I now run the local history group for the village of Steep in which I live. www.historyofsteep.co.uk
Hi... I found your image of a GPO Marker Post recently. I'm documenting these and there is now (just launched) a dedicated website at https://gpo-markers.derektp.co.uk I've included your example in the database (searchable facility coming soon) and on the interactive map.
If you'd prefer I don't include the image, or wish to change the attribution (currently "Historic Gosport") please let me know.
